Gas Hobs
The most popular type of hob, giving you visible and instant heat. Usually available is a variety of sizes to suit most needs. Gas hobs compose of either 4 or 5 burners, each giving out a different output. If you use a Wok regularly then a gas hob with a high powered burner would be ideal.
Induction Hobs
Heat up the pan directly, this is done by a circular coil which generates a magnetic field and transfers the energy to the pan. The coil will not activate till an iron based pan is detected. When the pan is removed the hob will automatically cool down which reduces the risk of burns. The fact that induction hobs are energy efficient and easy to clean makes it one of the most popular hobs today.
Electric Ceramic Hobs
The heating element is hidden under the ceramic glass. Zoned areas show the size and position of the heat source. Heat distribution is not as good as Gas or Induction, making it less popular. As Ceramic electric hobs are not expensive, this appliance is still being bought today.
Electric Hot Plate
The use of traditional solid electric hot plates makes it less and less popular today, especially now with the importance of being energy efficient. Although this method is the cheapest to buy, it is also the most expensive to run. Heating up and cooling down can take a long time, so maybe consider an electric ceramic hob.
